Mother 3: Butaō no Saigo (マザー3 豚王の最期 meaning Mother 3: Fall of the Pig King) is a game for the cancelled NINTENDO 64. It was planned to be released as the third instalment in the Earthbound series. This game was originally planned for the Super Nintendo, but it was announced at Nintendo Space World in 1996 that it would be released for the 64DD. The following year, in 1997, it was subtitled "Forest of Chimaera" (キマイラの森). However, due to trademark issues, the name was changed to "Forest of Strange Creatures" (奇怪生物の森). Subsequently, the development and release of the 64DD was postponed, so the cartridge was changed from the 64DD to a cartridge release in the summer of 1999.

In the same year, a prototype of the game, subtitled "Fall of the Pig King", was unveiled for the first time and made playable at Nintendo Space World '99 in Chiba, Japan. At Nintendo Space World'99, it was announced that the planned release date was May 2000, but that the release was cancelled on August 22, 2000. The main reasons for the cancellation were that Shigesato Itoi's team was inexperienced in 3D game development and faced problems during development due to the difficulty of developing for the NINTENDO 64.

Shigesato Itoi, the creator of the Earthbound series, revealed that the base story was already complete by the time the game was first announced. The playable characters are the twins Lucas and Claus, their dog Boney, and their father Flint. The scenario has a total of 12 chapters, with different characters to play in each chapter. each
