The Fairyland Story is an arcade game released by Taito in 1985. A Famicom version was planned, but was cancelled for unknown reasons. On ca. 2002, a lot of prototypes were found in a warehouse in Ebina.[1] One of them was brought by a private collector as he posted a photo of cartridge (same as infobox above) on Twitter.[2] On 2022, an another prototype dating from April 25, 1986 was found among the dozen lot of Famicom carts on a eBay auction. User FenrisRetro noticed this and decided to bid then win. He hand over to the folks at Forest of Illusion, Hard4Games and Gaming Alexandria to dump and release the ROM. On June 18, 2022, the ROM was released online.[3]

In January of 1990, the game was submitted to a US lotcheck (although leaked prototype is 24KB and uses NROM while lotcheck is 48KB and uses CNROM). It is possible that that game is a different version. However, no screenshots of that version available.
